Step-by-Step Guide to Making an Espresso Frappuccino

Below, I’ll walk you through exactly how to make it, with a few tips I’ve learned along the way.
Total Time 5 minutes

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or coffee maker (to brew espresso)
  • Blender (to mix everything into a smooth frappuccino)
  • Measuring cups & spoons
  • Tall glass for serving

Ingredients

  • 1 shot of espresso (or strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 cup of milk (whole, almond, oat, or any preference)
  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • 2 tbsp sugar or simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract (optional for added flavor)
  • Whipped cream (optional topping)
  • Chocolate or caramel drizzle (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • Brew a Strong Espresso Shot: The base of any good Espresso Frappuccino starts with strong, high-quality espresso. If you have an espresso machine, pull a single or double shot. No machine? No problem!
A Moka pot or AeroPress works well too. Just be sure to let the espresso cool for a minute or two before blending. This prevents the ice from melting too fast.
  • Blend the Ingredients: Now for the fun part! Add espresso, milk, ice, sugar, and vanilla extract to a blender. Then blend on high speed for 30-45 seconds until you get a creamy and frothy consistency. If your blender struggles with ice, pulse it a few times first before blending continuously.
  • Adjust Sweetness & Texture: Once blended, give it a taste. If it’s too thick you can add a splash of milk. If it’s too thin, toss in some extra ice cubes and blend again. Not sweet enough? Add a little more simple syrup, honey, or even a flavored syrup like caramel or vanilla.
  • Serve & Garnish: Pour your frappuccino into a tall glass, then top it off with whipped cream for that coffee shop feel. In case you want to take it up a notch? You may drizzle some chocolate or caramel sauce on top and sprinkle a little cocoa powder or cinnamon for extra flavor.

My Pro Tip

Here's a little trick I use: you can freeze leftover coffee or espresso into ice cubes and use those instead of regular ice.
This keeps the drink cold and thick without watering it down as the ice melts. It makes a huge difference in keeping the coffee flavor bold and strong!
