How to Make Bulletproof Coffee (Step-By-Step Recipe)

What I love about this coffee is how simple it is to make. So, here's what I suggest you to do:
Total Time 7 minutes

Equipment

  • Blender: A regular blender works fine, but a handheld frother can also do the trick if you’re in a hurry.
  • Coffee maker: Any method works here (French Press, Pour over, Aeropress). So, choose your favorite way to brew.
  • Mug: An obvious one, but you’ll need a sturdy mug ready to handle a hot, frothy beverage.

Ingredients

  • Freshly brewed coffee: 8-12 ounces (about a cup). Personally, I recommend Bulletproof Coffee Beans or Kicking Horse Coffee. They’re both organic, high-quality brands with rich and smooth flavors. The main thing is to go for high-quality, organic beans if possible to avoid those unwanted chemicals and to bring out the best flavor in your Bulletproof coffee.
  • Grass-fed, unsalted butter: 1-2 tablespoons. This might sound odd at first, but grass-fed butter gives a smooth, rich texture and has higher levels of omega-3s than regular butter.
  • MCT oil: 1-2 tablespoons. MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides, which are fats known for providing quick, brain-boosting energy. If you don’t have MCT oil on hand, you can substitute with coconut oil, though it won’t have quite the same effect.

Instructions

  • Brew your coffee. Start by making your coffee as you normally would. Use around 8-12 ounces of fresh, hot coffee. I like mine stronger for Bulletproof coffee, so I add an extra scoop of grounds if using a drip method.
  • Add coffee, butter, and MCT oil to the blender. Pour your hot coffee into the blender, then add the grass-fed butter and MCT oil. Be careful with the hot liquid—it’s best to start the blender on a low setting to avoid any splashes.
  • Blend for 20-30 seconds until frothy. Blend on high until you see a nice frothy layer on top, which means the fats are fully emulsified with the coffee. The end result should look like a creamy latte with a smooth texture.
  • Pour and enjoy! Once blended, pour your Bulletproof coffee into your favorite mug and sip away. It’s best to drink it while it’s hot, as that creamy froth tastes amazingly fresh.

Personal Tip

If you’re adding flavor (like a dash of cinnamon or vanilla extract), toss it into the blender with everything else. It blends in better and keeps the flavor from just sitting on top of the coffee.

And if you’re new to Bulletproof coffee, maybe start with smaller amounts of butter and MCT oil until you see how your body reacts.
