How to Make Proffee (Step-by-Step)

If you can make a protein shake or brew a basic cup of coffee, you can absolutely make proffee. It’s not rocket science, but getting it smooth and tasty takes some finesse. I’ve messed it up before (hello, chunky cinnamon latte). So follow these steps:
Total Time 5 minutes

Equipment

  • Blender bottle or shaker with mixing ball
  • Handheld frother or milk frother (optional, but great for texture)
  • Measuring scoop
  • Tall glass or insulated tumbler

Ingredients

  • Brewed coffee, cold brew, or espresso (cooled to room temp or chilled)
  • Protein powder (whey, plant-based, or collagen—whatever works for you)
  • Ice
  • Optional add-ins: oat or almond milk, sweetener (stevia, honey, etc.), flavor syrup, cinnamon, collagen peptide

Instructions

  • Choose Your Coffee Base: You’ve got options here. Cold brew gives a mellow vibe, espresso brings intensity, and strong brewed coffee is the middle ground. Just make sure it’s not piping hot or your protein powder might get weird and clump up—been there, not cute.
  • Add Your Protein Powder: Measure out your protein. Usually, one scoop (around 20–30g of protein). If you’re using a shaker bottle, add the coffee first, then the powder. Trust me, it mixes better that way and saves you from protein stuck in the lid.
  • Mix & Customize: Now’s the fun part. You can add some ice to chill it down, splash in your favorite milk (I love oat or almond), and toss in a flavor shot if you’re feeling fancy. Then shake it well or blend it until it’s smooth and frothy.

Pro Tip:

If your protein tends to clump no matter what, try mixing it first with a small amount of milk to form a smooth paste then add the coffee.
