How to Make a Nutella Latte (Easy & Quick Recipe)
Lately, I’ve been on a little mission of testing out all sorts of homemade coffee drinks, from classics to the slightly wild. But the idea for this one took me straight back to being a kid.
I used to sneak spoonfuls of Nutella right out of the jar (didn’t we all?), then finally slap it on toast like that somehow made it balanced. That rich hazelnut-chocolate combo always felt like a treat I didn’t want to end.
So when I first tried to make a Nutella latte, it felt like pure nostalgia but with caffeine. It’s creamy, chocolatey, a little nutty, and ridiculously easy to throw together. Honestly, it’s become one of those “how did I not make this sooner?” drinks.
In this post, I’ll walk you through everything you need: the ingredients, how to make it hot or iced, plus a few fun twists to take it up a notch. So let’s start brewing!
What Is a Nutella Latte?
A Nutella latte is exactly what it sounds like: warm, frothy milk blended with bold espresso and that creamy chocolate-hazelnut spread we all secretly eat by the spoonful.
This combo is rich and smooth, with just the right amount of sweetness to feel like a treat. But it doesn’t go full dessert unless you want it to, in which case, bring on the whipped cream.

The hazelnut notes pair well with coffee; it’s like the fancy European cousin of a mocha.
One of the best parts?
You can enjoy it hot on chilly days or iced when summer’s in full swing. Either way, it’s easy to make and pretty enjoyable. If you love lattes and you’ve got a soft spot for Nutella, you need to try this.

Nutella Latte (Hot Version Recipe)
Equipment
- Mug (go with your favorite—it deserves it)
- Small saucepan or microwave-safe cup
- Milk frother, French press, or whisk
- Spoon (for mixing Nutella)
- Espresso machine, moka pot, Aeropress, or coffee maker
Ingredients
- 1–2 shots of espresso (or ½ cup strong brewed coffee)
- 1½ tablespoons Nutella
- ¾ cup milk (any kind: dairy or plant-based)
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, hazelnut syrup
Instructions
- Step 1) Brew Your Coffee: First things first: brew your espresso or strong coffee. I like using a moka pot when I want that deep, bold flavor, but honestly, any strong brew works here. Just make sure it's hot enough to melt the Nutella in the next step.
- Step 2) Heat and Froth the Milk: Warm your milk in a saucepan over low heat or microwave it for about 30–45 seconds. If you’ve got a frother, now’s the time to use it. No frother? No worries! Whisk it by hand or pump it a few times in a French press.
- Step 3) Mix Nutella and Coffee: Spoon your Nutella into the bottom of a mug and pour your hot coffee right over it. Next, stir like you mean it until the Nutella is fully melted and mixed in. The result should already smell amazing.
- Step 4) Add Milk and Top It Off: Pour your steamed milk over the Nutella-coffee blend. Then spoon some froth on top if you like that latte finish. You can add your whipped cream, sprinkle cocoa powder or shavings, maybe a drizzle of hazelnut syrup… or keep it simple. Either way, it’s delicious!

Notes
Unique Tip:
If you’re down to the last bit of Nutella in the jar, then don’t wash it out just yet. You can pour your hot coffee directly into the jar, give it a good stir, then add your warmed milk. It turns into a makeshift mocha cup and saves dishes.Iced Nutella Latte Version Recipe
On a warm day, this chilled version hits the spot and it’s super easy to throw together with just a few steps.

Step 1) Brew and Chill Your Coffee: Start by brewing a shot or two of espresso (or about ½ cup of strong coffee). Next, let it cool down completely, or speed it up by sticking it in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes.
Step 2) Mix Nutella and Espresso: Scoop about 1½ tablespoons of Nutella into a glass or shaker. Afterward, add the chilled coffee and stir or better yet, shake it up until everything is smooth and combined. A handheld milk frother works great here, too.
Step 3 ) Add Ice and Cold Milk: Fill your serving glass with ice, then pour the Nutella espresso mix over it. Then top it off with cold milk, about ¾ cup, but adjust depending on how strong or creamy you like it.
Step 4) Top and Sip: If you’re feeling a little extra, drizzle some chocolate or hazelnut syrup over the top. Whipped cream and chocolate shavings are also fair game.
Tip: For a super smooth texture, I like to blend the Nutella with a splash of warm coffee first before chilling. This helps it dissolve better and avoids any graininess.
Nutella Latte: Flavor Variations & Tips
Once you’ve nailed the classic version, it’s time to have some fun with it. So, here are some tips:
1 – Add a dash of cinnamon or a pinch of sea salt
Cinnamon brings warmth and spice, while a tiny pinch of sea salt makes the chocolate flavor pop. I always sprinkle a little right on top, which makes all the difference.

2 – Use half-and-half or oat milk
If you’re after that extra creamy mouthfeel, swap your regular milk for half-and-half. Another option is oat milk, which also works beautifully. It’s naturally sweet, froths well, and gives the drink a velvety texture without feeling too heavy.
3 – Add an extra espresso shot
Some mornings (or late afternoons), you need that extra jolt. For this, you can double up on espresso, giving your Nutella latte a bold kick that balances out the sweetness. I do this when I want it to feel more like a coffee drink than a dessert.
4 – Make it vegan
Use your favorite plant-based milk (oat or almond are my go-tos) and a vegan chocolate-hazelnut spread like Nocciolata Dairy Free.
